The Paramount Chief of the Manyoro Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Pe Professor Dr. Peter Atudiwe Atupare Manchi III (who is also a law lecturer at the University of Ghana), made headlines during the PANAFEST/Emancipation Day celebrations at the Pikworo Heritage and Slave Camp. He delivered a passionate address urging Africans to take ownership of their own historical narrative regarding the slave trade rather than letting the history continue to be told primarily from the perspective of the perpetrators.
Chieftaincy and Elevation Tensions Earlier, tensions arose around Navrongo and surrounding traditional areas following a proposal submitted to the National House of Chiefs regarding the potential elevation of certain traditional stools—including the Manyoro Pe—to paramountcy status. Kingmakers, clan elders, and the royal family expressed strong opposition and called for wider consultations and adherence to traditional consensus before any status shifts.
Community Development and Local Leadership Initiatives Under the leadership of Pe Dr. Atupare Manchi III, the Manyoro Traditional Area has instituted several progressive local governance milestones, including:
-
The democratic election and outdooring of community youth chiefs and queen mothers to tackle issues like youth unemployment, education, and substance abuse.
-
The structural outdooring of 15 sub-chiefs representing major communities within the traditional area to boost grassroots development and unity.
